In November 2025, Universitas YARSI has received appreciation and recognition as a companion university (PT Pendamping) in the establishment of Task Forces for Prevention and Handling of Sexual Violence (Satuan Tugas Pencegahan dan Penanganan Kekerasan Seksual/Satgas PPKPT) at numerous universities within the LLDIKTI Region 3 jurisdiction. This recognition acknowledges Universitas YARSI’s commitment and expertise in supporting other higher education institutions to develop effective mechanisms for preventing and responding to sexual violence on campus. As a companion university, YARSI plays a crucial mentoring role by sharing best practices, providing technical guidance, facilitating capacity building for task force members, and supporting the implementation of comprehensive policies and procedures aligned with the Ministry of Education’s regulations on sexual violence prevention. This achievement reflects YARSI’s leadership in promoting safe, inclusive campus environments and demonstrates the university’s dedication to protecting student welfare beyond its own institutional boundaries. The companion role involves assisting partner universities in establishing protocols for reporting mechanisms, survivor support systems, perpetrator accountability processes, awareness campaigns, and creating campus cultures that respect dignity and prevent all forms of gender-based violence.

This recognition and YARSI’s role as a companion university directly support Sustainable Development Goal 5 on Gender Equality, which aims to eliminate all forms of violence against women and girls in public and private spheres, including sexual exploitation and harassment. By helping establish functional PPKPT task forces across multiple universities, YARSI contributes to creating safer educational environments where students especially women and vulnerable groups can pursue their studies free from fear of sexual violence. This initiative also supports SDG 4 on Quality Education by ensuring that educational institutions provide not only academic excellence but also safe, inclusive learning environments essential for student success and well-being. The establishment of robust prevention and response mechanisms addresses systemic barriers that often force survivors to discontinue their education, thereby promoting equal access to education regardless of gender. Furthermore, this work aligns with SDG 16 on Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions by strengthening institutional accountability, promoting rule of law, and building effective mechanisms for justice and protection. Through its companion role, Universitas YARSI amplifies its impact far beyond its own campus, contributing to transforming higher education culture across the region and advancing Indonesia’s commitment to eliminating gender-based violence and ensuring safe, equitable educational opportunities for all students.

The year 2025 marks a historic milestone in Indonesia’s hajj pilgrimage management, as it represents the final year of the Ministry of Religious Affairs (Kemenag) serving as the hajj organizer [...]

The year 2025 marks a historic milestone in Indonesia’s hajj pilgrimage management, as it represents the final year of the Ministry of Religious Affairs (Kemenag) serving as the hajj organizer after 75 years of overseeing the pilgrimage. Starting in 2026, the Hajj Organizing Body (BP Hajj) will take over the baton as both regulator and operator of the hajj, including the recruitment of hajj officers. This transformation is driven by the need for more professional hajj management, considering that the hajj pilgrimage is a complex spiritual journey involving more than 220,000 Indonesian pilgrims annually with diverse physical conditions, cultural backgrounds, and expectations.

BP Hajj implements a comprehensive preparation method by equipping hajj officers with basic standard Arabic language skills, such as asking for directions and addresses, and conducting technical guidance for approximately one month to ensure optimal service for pilgrims. The specific strategies implemented include increasing the allocation of female hajj officers, given that Indonesian hajj pilgrims are predominantly women, while adopting the tagline “Friendly to the Elderly, Disabled, and Women.” In its implementation, on July 30, 2025 BP Hajj collaborates with academic institutions such as YARSI University, which is ready to provide health education for prospective hajj pilgrims through academic contributions in medicine, psychology, nutrition, and Islamic finance.

This BP Hajj initiative demonstrates commitment to achieving several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being) through a holistic approach to pilgrims’ health and dementia prevention education for the elderly, SDG 4 (Quality Education) through Arabic language training programs and technical guidance for officers, and SDG 5 (Gender Equality) through increased representation of female officers and gender-friendly services. The professionalization of hajj pilgrimage management is expected to adapt to contemporary challenges, including technological challenges, elderly demographics, and pilgrims’ mental preparedness to face crowded and extreme conditions in the holy land, ensuring that hajj is not only valid according to Islamic jurisprudence but also humane. The collaborative approach with academia also supports SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) in building professional national hajj governance that provides added value to society spiritually, socially, and economically.

On Sunday, January 14, 2024, an education program titled ‘Edukasi Hak Perempuan dan Anak dalam Meningkatkan Kualitas Keluarga’ was held in Ujung Menteng Sub-district, Cakung, East Jakarta. This community service activity aimed to enhance the community’s understanding and awareness of the importance of women’s and children’s rights in building a high-quality and harmonious family. The event was initiated by lecturers from the Faculty of Law, Universitas YARSI, namely Lusy Liany, Mohammad Kharis Umardani, and Paramaresthi Windriyani.

The activity was conducted using the participatory action method (Sanjaya, 2007), combining lectures and interactive discussions. Fifty percent of the time was allocated for lectures to deliver knowledge cognitively, while the remaining 50% was dedicated to discussions and Q&A sessions to foster awareness and motivation among participants. By actively involving the community, this method was designed to convey relevant legal information and encourage the application of principles of gender equality and children’s rights in daily life.

This program aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 5: Gender Equality and Goal 16: Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions. By educating communities about women’s and children’s rights, this initiative contributes to ending all forms of discrimination against women and children (Target 5.1) and ensures responsive, inclusive, and participatory decision-making at all levels (Target 16.7). Furthermore, the emphasis on creating harmonious and high-quality families supports Goal 3: Good Health and Well-being, as empowered families are the foundation for mental and physical well-being.

Through this program, the residents of Ujung Menteng gained a deeper understanding of the importance of equality and legal awareness as a pathway to improving family quality. The constructive dialogue between the speakers and participants is expected to create a lasting positive impact that contributes to the achievement of these SDGs.

Group 44 from the Faculty of Management at YARSI University conducted their Community Service Program (KKN) in Sunter Agung Sub-district, focusing on two main issues: the lack of community understanding regarding domestic violence (KDRT) and child reproductive health. This program aimed to address these knowledge gaps through a series of educational activities targeted at residents, particularly mothers and children in the area.

The KKN activities consisted of several important stages, beginning with socialization that introduced topics related to domestic violence and child reproductive health to the community. The next stage was counseling, where participants were provided with in-depth and practical information on these issues. The program also included training designed to enhance participants’ skills and knowledge in handling and preventing domestic violence, as well as better understanding aspects of child reproductive health. Additionally, mentoring was provided to ensure that the knowledge gained could be effectively applied in daily life.

Throughout the implementation of the activities, the enthusiasm and active participation of the community demonstrated that the program was well-received and successfully achieved its objectives. This success not only increased community understanding of domestic violence and child reproductive health but also contributed to several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), namely SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being, SDG 4: Quality Education, and SDG 5: Gender Equality.
