On Thursday, June 11, 2026, Universitas YARSI in collaboration with GenomikA Saius Indonesia and Indonesian Rare Disorders (IRD) organized “Gathering & Scientific Forum YARSI Cares for Rare Diseases with Community” with the theme “From Empathy to Action for IRD” at Universitas YARSI, Jakarta. The activity was opened with remarks from Prof. dr. Fasli Jalal, Ph.D (Rector of Universitas YARSI) and dr. Siti Nadia Tarmizi, M.Epid (Director of P2PTM Ministry of Health RI), demonstrating the institution’s commitment to providing special attention to rare diseases that remain a public health challenge in Indonesia. This scientific forum featured competent speakers in their respective fields, namely dr. Arifanto, Sp.A(K) (Pediatric Neurologist), dr. Yulia Ariani, Sp.A(K) (Pediatric Nutrition and Metabolic Specialist), and dr. Liko Maryudhyanto, Sp.KJ (Psychiatrist), as well as Dr. Christine Yan from Salus Biomed who discussed medical aspects and management of rare diseases. The forum was moderated by Prof. Dr. Tjandra Yoga Aditama, Sp.P(K), MARS., DTCE., FISR (Director of Postgraduate School at YARSI), while Prof. dr. Sultana MH Faradz, PAK, Ph.D (Genetic Counselor at YARSI) provided closing remarks. As a concrete demonstration of commitment to the rare disease patient community, Universitas YARSI also provided free chromosome analysis services for 5 rare disease patients attending the event, demonstrating the institution’s dedication to providing practical support to the community in need. The event was open to the public with free registration fees, ensuring broad accessibility for all parties seeking knowledge and support related to rare diseases.

The “YARSI Cares for Rare Diseases” activity organized by Universitas YARSI aligns with the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) on several important points. Goal 3 on Good Health and Well-being is promoted by raising public awareness and knowledge about rare diseases that are often overlooked, providing access to quality health information from leading medical experts, and offering free health services in the form of chromosome analysis for rare disease patient communities in need, supporting early detection and more optimal management of rare diseases. Goal 4 on Quality Education is advanced by providing education and learning forums on rare diseases to communities, patient families, and health workers, enhancing comprehensive understanding of diagnosis, treatment, and psychosocial support for rare disease patients. Goal 10 on Reduced Inequalities is addressed by providing equal access to health information and medical services for rare disease patient communities who are often marginalized in the general health system, increasing visibility and recognition of rare diseases at community and government levels. Additionally, Goal 17 on Partnerships for the Goals is achieved through strategic collaboration among higher education institutions (Universitas YARSI), rare disease patient community organizations (IRD), genetic research institutions (GenomikA Saius Indonesia), and the ministry of health in building a more inclusive and responsive health ecosystem to the needs of rare disease patients. This activity also demonstrates the role of higher education institutions as social change agents that care about complex public health issues requiring multidisciplinary and collaborative approaches.

Tuberculosis (TB) remains one of the most pressing public health challenges in Indonesia, with thousands of new cases recorded each year — including more than 21,000 cases in Jakarta alone between January and May 2025. Against this alarming backdrop, a TB education initiative organized by medical students from the Asian Medical Students’ Association (AMSA) of the Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Indonesia, held at the RPTRA Pasar Senen, Central Jakarta, on April 11, 2026, stands as a timely and meaningful response to this ongoing crisis. Featuring Prof. Tjandra Yoga Aditama as the keynote speaker, the event reached community members across all age groups from children to an 88-year-old elder delivering essential knowledge on TB transmission, diagnosis, treatment protocols, and the critical dangers of drug resistance resulting from incomplete adherence to Anti-Tuberculosis Drug (OAT) regimens. The remarkable enthusiasm displayed by participants, evident in the lively question-and-answer sessions covering topics from handwashing practices to vaccine efficacy and dietary guidance, powerfully demonstrates that community-based health education is not merely complementary to clinical intervention it is indispensable to breaking the chain of TB transmission at its very roots.

This TB education initiative aligns directly and substantively with SDG 3: Good Health and Well-Being. Empowering communities with accurate knowledge about TB prevention, early detection, and treatment compliance represents a vital upstream intervention, recognizing that the success of TB control depends not solely on healthcare access but equally on informed and active community participation. Beyond SDG 3, this initiative is also strongly connected to SDG 4: Quality Education, as reflected in its inclusive, non-formal educational approach that reached diverse age groups within a public space, making health literacy accessible regardless of formal educational background. Furthermore, the collaborative model between a higher education institution, a domain expert, and the local community exemplifies the spirit of SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals demonstrating that sustainable health outcomes are best achieved through cross-sector cooperation and shared commitment to the well-being of all.

In February, 2026, The UI GreenMetric Regional Information Session was organized as part of UI GreenMetric’s ongoing commitment to strengthening sustainability initiatives across higher education institutions. The session was conducted in an interactive online format, beginning with welcome and opening remarks by Dr. Vishnu Juwono, S.E., MIA, Chairperson of UI GreenMetric, followed by a presentation session led by Dr. Abellia Anggi Wardani, S.Hum., M.A., Vice Chair of UI GreenMetric. The agenda included an overview of the UI GreenMetric Sustainable University Rankings, a highlight video titled “Our Work in Action,” an interactive Q&A session, and closing remarks by the MC. The session aimed to provide comprehensive insights into governance, digitalization, and integrated performance in advancing sustainable campuses, while also creating a platform for dialogue and knowledge exchange among participants. As a result, participants gained a deeper understanding of the ranking framework and strengthened their institutional commitment to implementing sustainable campus practices.

This activity aligns with several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4 (Quality Education) by enhancing institutional capacity in sustainability implementation within higher education, and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) by fostering collaboration and the sharing of best practices among universities. Furthermore, its emphasis on governance and digital transformation in sustainability performance supports SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities) and SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production), as universities play a strategic role within urban ecosystems in promoting responsible resource management and long-term environmental impact.
