The 3rd Indonesian University Library International Conference (KPPTI) Held in Batam

Batam, Riau Islands – The 3rd Indonesian University Library International Conference (KPPTI) was successfully held on November 5-8, 2024 at the Pacific Palace Hotel, Batam, Riau Islands. This event was attended by 157 participants from various institutions throughout Indonesia and abroad. The 3rd KPPTI was made possible thanks to the collaboration between the Indonesian University Library Forum (FPPTI) and the Riau Islands FPPTI represented by the Batam Institute of Technology (ITEBA) and Batam Tourism Polytechnic (BTP).

The event was officially opened by Ansar Ahmad, SE, MM, Governor of the Riau Islands, who gave a speech in the opening remark. In the welcoming speech, the Chairperson of FPPTI, Mariyah, S.Sos., M.Hum., expressed appreciation to all participants and organizers who have contributed to the success of this conference.

The keynote speakers present at KPPTI this time were national figures, namely:

  • Prof. Dr. Rer. Nat. Abdul Haris, M.Sc., Director General of Higher Education, Research, and Technology (DIRJEN DIKTI) MINISTRY OF EDUCATION, CULTURE, DESTINATION, TECHNOLOGY, REPUBLIC OF INDONESIA.
  • Prof. E. Aminudin Aziz, Ph.D., Acting Head of the National Library of the Republic of Indonesia.

International Workshop and Seminar Activities.

The 3rd KPPTI presents various interesting activities, including workshops and international seminars with the main theme of the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in education and libraries. Some of the speakers involved in the workshop are:

  1. Suwondo, S.Hum., M.Kom. (Diponegoro University) with the topic of Utilization of AI in Scientific Learning.
  2. Sony Pawoko, S.Sos., MTI (University of Indonesia) with the topic Librarian as Research Partner: Research Data Management in Higher Education.

In the international session of the seminar, a number of speakers from within and outside the country shared their insights, including:

  • Muhamad Prabu Wibowo, Ph.D. (University of Indonesia): The Development of AI-Ready Institutional Data Repositories through Value Co-creation and Resource Integration: Lessons from US Universities.
  • Ahmad Safwan Hj Jalil (University of Brunei Darussalam): Industrial Revolution 5.0 and AI Initiatives.
  • Dr. Mohd Faizal Hamzah (Universiti Malaya, Malaysia): Navigating Future: Challenges & Opportunities of AI in Academic Libraries.
  • Assoc. Prof. Gaby Haddow (Curtin University, Australia): Australian Academic Libraries: Teaching and Research Support in a Digital Age.

Call for Papers and MOU Signing

In addition to the seminar, the “Call for Papers” (CfP) activity was also a major attraction, attended by 25 presenters from various institutions. In this session, Tiko Dhafin Rizky acted as a paper reviewer and moderator.

The 3rd KPPTI also became an important moment for the signing and extension of the MOU between the National Library of the Republic of Indonesia and 32 state and private universities, institutes, and colleges. YARSI University also took part in the extension of this MOU as an effort to strengthen cooperation in the field of libraries and digital literacy.

Benchlearning to Singapore and Batam

As part of the agenda, participants also made “benchlearning” visits to several leading institutions in Singapore, including the National Library Board (NLB) Singapore, Nanyang Technological University (NTU), National University of Singapore (NUS), Singapore Polytechnic (SP), and Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD). Visits to the Batam Institute of Technology (ITEBA) and Batam Tourism Polytechnic (BTP) also completed the series of activities, providing insight into innovative and modern library management.

The 3rd KPPTI in Batam succeeded in creating momentum to strengthen networks between university libraries and encourage the use of digital technology and artificial intelligence in library management in the era of the 5.0 industrial revolution.

This event is expected to provide a positive impact and inspire participants to implement the results of the discussion in library development in their respective institutions.
