The formation of DPJJ was based on the opportunity to open distance study programs at private universities. This opportunity is stated in the Regulation of the Minister of Research, Technology and Higher Education of the Republic of Indonesia number 51 of 2018 concerning the Establishment, Changes, and Dissolution of State Universities, and the Establishment, Changes, and Revocation of Private Higher Education Licenses. This regulation states that the Distance Education (PJJ) system is one of the options that can be offered by universities, and is chosen by the community, both at home and abroad. YARSI University welcomed this opportunity by issuing the Chancellor's letter number 087/INT/ UM/REK/UY/XI/2019 concerning Application for the Establishment of a Distance Education Center (PPJJ) at YARSI University on November 27 2019. This letter was welcomed by the YARSI Foundation with the Establishment of a Distance Education Center (PPJJ), which is stated in letter number 411 /PEN/KEP/XII/2019, on January 1 2020 and appointed Andreas Febrian, Ph.D. as acting director (PIt) of PPJJ.
PPJJ then changed its name in YARSI University statute number 231/PEN/BIA/XII/2020 to the Directorate of Distance Learning (DPJJ). As support for DPJJ, YARSI University through Chancellor's letter number 215/PEN/KEP/VIII/2021 appointed Penny Rahmah Fadhilah, M.Sc., as Head of the Online Instructional Center and through Chancellor's letter number 216/PEN/KEP/VIII/2021 appointed Alabanyo Brebahama, M.Psi., Psychologist., as Head of the SCREEN Development Center.
