BRIEF HISTORY OF YARSI UNIVERSITY

YARSI University was founded by the Indonesian Islamic Hospital Foundation (YARSI) initially as the YARSI Medical College on April 15 1967 with one medical study program. The establishment of the YARSI Medical College started out of concern over the scarcity of medical personnel in Indonesia and the very backwardness of Muslims in participating in the field of health services and education. At that time in Jakarta there was not a single medical educational institution or hospital managed by an Islamic institution. Along the way, in 1969, in accordance with the provisions of law number 22 of 1961, this institution was transformed into the YARSI Medical College. With the existence of this educational institution, opportunities are open for prospective students to receive medical education equipped with the Islamic faith which guides people about the nature of life which basically only seeks the pleasure of ALLAH SWT.

When it was first established in 1967, YARSI University only had one study program (PS) in the form of STK-YARSI. In 1989 several new PS were opened in three faculties. Furthermore, on April 15 1967 the YARSI Foundation officially established the YARSI Medical College. In accordance with the demands of Law no. 22 of 1961, the name was then changed in 1969 to YARSI MEDICAL HIGH SCHOOL. With the opening of 3 other faculties in 1989: Law, Economics and Information Technology, the name changed again to YARSI UNIVERSITY. The establishment of the YARSI Medical College cannot be separated from the full assistance of the UNIVERSITY OF INDONESIA Faculty of Medicine by the Dean at that time: Prof. Dr. Jamaluddin, SpB and his lecturers in all departments. Without this assistance, it would be impossible for the YARSI Medical College to be managed and developed. This support is in the form of use of all lecture rooms and laboratories with equipment on the campus of the Faculty of Medicine, UNIVERSITY OF INDONESIA, jl. Salemba no. 6 Jakarta. This continued until 1970. It was only in 1971 that the campus moved to Jl. Lt. Gen. Suprapto Cempaka Putih and continues to develop as seen today. Then followed the addition of one faculty, namely psychology, and the addition of two study programs, namely the dentistry study program and a master's in management, a master's in notary, a master's in biomedicine under the management of a postgraduate school. Thus, currently YARSI University has six faculties with 13 study programs.
