Water-conscious planting Year

YARSI University’s decision to increase the number of water storage installations built since 2021 is wise. Trees are planted in the empty spaces between university buildings. This is an effort to reduce the possibility of drought and flooding. There are 14,000 m2 on campus. 1,000 m2 is the total campus area covered by forest vegetation. 7.14% of the total campus area is covered by forest vegetation. Rainwater can be absorbed by water storage plants and stored in the soil. In addition, water storage plants can help reduce air temperature and improve air quality.

At YARSI University, the following types of water storage plants have been planted:

  • Shade trees, including banyan, mango, and ketapang trees
  • Shrub trees, including mahogany, teak, and bamboo trees
  • Shrubs, including succulents and vines

Promoting conscious water usage

In 2021, YARSI University has undertaken several initiatives to encourage water conservation on campus. These initiatives have successfully decreased the amount of water used on campus. YARSI University has undertaken several initiatives to encourage the use of water conservation, including The academic community: a) counseling and water-saving campaigns (by placing “water-saving” stickers in strategic locations) when they use water. YARSI University has equipped the campus with several water-saving amenities and infrastructure. Some of these amenities and infrastructure include water-saving taps, water-saving toilets, and water-saving showers. YARSI University regularly monitors how much water is used on campus. This monitoring is done to find out how much water is used and how successful the efforts have been made. According to statistics from water usage monitoring, YARSI University was able to cut water usage on campus by 20% between 2021 and 2022. This decrease is the outcome of YARSI University’s several initiatives, including its promotion of water conservation.

Support research on water conservation

 YARSI University facilitates assistance for water conservation efforts conducted outside its premises through the implementation of research initiatives aimed at monitoring the acidity levels and mineral content in liquid waste. In conjunction with other academic institutions, our research initiative aims to monitor the acidity levels and mineral dissolution in liquid waste. Implementing a monitoring system enables determining the acidity level in waste, facilitating the assessment of its treatability. Consequently, the monitoring system aids in determining if the waste can undergo treatment and yield reusable processed outcomes, such as clean water.
