Current collaborations with health institutions

YARSI University and the Pandeglang District Health Office work together to manage stunting in ten of the district’s communities

In 2021, YARSI University established a collaborative partnership with the Pandeglang Regency Health Office to implement a program aimed at mitigating the prevalence of stunting within the Pandeglang Regency. In this endeavor, YARSI University established collaborative alliances with business entities, including the Charoen Pokphan Indonesia Company and Unilever Indonesia. The primary intervention conducted is the introduction of eggs to kids over six months. Furthermore, there were further provisions for training sessions targeting integrated service post (Posyandu) cadres, nutrition education for expectant mothers, parenting workshops, and counseling services for adolescents. The primary responsibility of the Health Office in these endeavors is to assume leadership in implementing activities related to the distribution of eggs. Their objective is to guarantee that the eggs are effectively delivered to the designated village and received by the intended beneficiaries, namely the toddlers, who are the program’s focal point. The study’s findings indicated that the intake of eggs among a sample of 266 toddlers residing in 10 specific localities with a high prevalence of stunting in Pandelang had a discernible influence on weight growth and height. Additionally, an 11.5% reduction was seen in the prevalence of stunted toddlers.

The implementation of stunting control efforts in the Pandeglang district is expected to continue in 2022. The primary collaborator in this project is the Health Office of the Pandeglang district. Furthermore, the project also garnered backing from the Kedaireka Matching Fund (DIKTI), Bio Farma Company, Charoen Pokphand Foundation Indonesia Company, Optima Consultant, and Bandung Computer and Social Science Expert Community (KAKIS). The implementation of egg treatments for toddlers continues, accompanied by creative activities using the CENTURIONE technique. This approach integrates the domains of nutrition, epigenetics, and cognitive data into a comprehensive framework. The CENTURIONE approach enhances the surveillance process in the Pandeglang region by identifying populations or individuals at risk of malnutrition or stunting and targeting interventions to improve nutritional intake. These interventions are determined based on biological indicators (epigenetic) and anthropometric measurements (integrated) within the siCENTING plus application. The findings of the egg intervention demonstrated a significant rise in the body weight of stunted toddlers and those at risk of stunting in the designated regions.

Additionally, the intervention enhanced Posyandu cadre proficiency in anthropometric measures and education by implementing ‘”nutrimenu”. The findings derived from epigenetic mapping efforts indicate a positive association between stunting characteristics and decreased levels of methylation throughout infants aged 0 to 2 years. The findings from cognitive measuring assessments indicate a significant relationship between educational attainment and income levels and the cognitive performance of children within the age range of 4 to 5 years. Using data inside the Si Centing Plus application has the potential for communities to engage in budgetary planning to reduce stunting prevalence.

Health outreach programmes

Through Real Work Lectures, students actively partake in the malnutrition management program in Pandeglang Regency.

In 2021, YARSI University students from the Faculty of Medicine will actively participate in all stunting managing efforts in the Pandeglang area via actual work activities. Data on egg distribution, egg consumption, toddler nutrition, teen training, and counseling are all collected with help from the class.

In 2022, the Pandeglang district’s stunting management efforts continued, with full participation from pupils. Students from medicine, psychology, and computer science schools are the most likely to participate in meaningful work-study programs. Pandgelang Regency Health Office, Kedaireka Matching Fund (DIKTI), Bio Farma Company, Charoen Pokphand Foundation Indonesia Company, Optima Consultant, and Bandung Computer and Social Science Expert Community (KAKIS) are all partners that have helped make this project possible. The CENTURIONE approach (Centingplus integration of Nutrition, Epigenetics, and Cognitive data) is being used in novel ways, and egg therapies for children are still going strong. The CENTURIONE method makes keeping tabs on the number of stunted children and adults in the Pandeglang region easier. This allows for more precise targeting of nutrition-based treatments.
