How are personal research activities reflected in teaching activities? :

My personal research interests in students’ learning and achievement emotion is generated from personal concern and experience in teaching English for tertiary level students. Students consider English as an important subject for their future career yet they feel the burden coming to the course to improve their English skills. Since the class is mandatory for them, students may experience negative emotions in their learning, such as anxious, worried, shy etc. As the result, they may avoid learning which leads them to failure. To overcome these, teachers should be able to let students see the value of their learning and develop their self-regulation system and to manage their negative learning emotion. To acknowledge students with the objectives of their learning and to train their resilience in studying have become my teaching activities.

My second research interests lately is in teacher professional development. Currently, I am establishing a sustainable professional development (SPD) for English teachers in Yarsi University language center. This SPD aims to improve teachers’ teaching practice through a cycle of peer supporting program which includes lesson planning, class observation and giving feedback. We expect teachers improve through their teaching reflection after the cycle is done. When students acknowledge that their teachers make progress by their learning, I expect students are to value their learning as well
