Body Language in Different Cultural Setting

“Body Language in Different Cultural Settings” is a thematic component of the Continuous Professional Development activities organized by Yarsi University. The primary goal is to enhance students’ understanding of body language and how it is influenced by cultural differences, as well as to help them identify and interpret body language signals when interacting with people from diverse cultural backgrounds. The activity also aims to prepare students to adapt and use appropriate body language in professional and career contexts.

The program consists of two sessions. In the first session (August 2, 2023), students will be introduced to the fundamental concepts of body language, such as how emotions are communicated through gestures and facial expressions, and how these can vary across different cultures. Students will also participate in group discussions and activities to analyze and practice interpreting body language. The second session (August 9, 2023) will focus on the practical application of body language in professional and career contexts. Students will learn how body language can impact first impressions and build rapport with others, and will identify areas for self-development related to effective use of body language.

Overall, this activity aims to improve students’ communication understanding and skills, particularly in the context of cultural differences. Effective communication skills, including an understanding of body language, are essential 21st-century skills needed for career success and personal life. This directly supports the achievement of Sustainable Development Goal 4 on Quality Education, by providing learning opportunities that enhance cross-cultural communication skills and prepare students for global challenges.
