Building a Sustainable Future Through Community-Led Environmental Action

Webinar Series #4 titled “Environmental Activism in ASEAN: Community Action for a Sustainable Future” helds on February, 19 2026 via CSEAS Zoom and livestreamed on CSEAS TV YouTube. The event is a collaboration between the Ministry of Environment of Denmark – Environmental Protection Agency, the Embassy of Denmark in Jakarta, and the Center for Southeast Asian Studies (CSEAS) Indonesia. The webinar features prominent environmental advocates from across the region, including Muchamad Ikhsan Destian (Pandawara Group), Mark Liao (President of Sarawak Eco Warriors & Regional Co-Coordinator of GYBN SEA, Malaysia), and Fajri Fadhillah (Senior Regional Campaign Strategist, Greenpeace Southeast Asia), with Dr. Arisman serving as moderator. The opening remark will be delivered by Anders Brodersen Jensen from the Danish Environmental Protection Agency, and the session will be guided by Jihan Khairun Amala as Master of Ceremony. This webinar aims to highlight the crucial role of community-driven initiatives in shaping environmental policies and sustainable practices at both local and regional levels. The discussion will explore the evolution of environmental activism in ASEAN, emphasizing cross-border collaboration, youth engagement, and grassroots campaign strategies. By bringing together activists, academics, and policymakers, the event seeks to strengthen regional networks and inspire concrete actions toward a more sustainable future in Southeast Asia.

The event aligns closely with the main goals of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 13 (Climate Action) as its central focus in addressing the climate crisis through collective efforts. It also supports SDG 15 (Life on Land) by promoting environmental protection and biodiversity conservation, as well as SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) by fostering cross-sector and cross-country collaboration. Through a community-based and partnership-driven approach, the webinar underscores the importance of shared responsibility and regional cooperation in advancing sustainable development across ASEAN.
