On August 12, 2025, Minister of Religious Affairs Nasaruddin Umar formed an expert advisory team consisting of 11 prominent figures from various backgrounds to support his work. This team includes academics, cultural figures, and religious figures with expertise in education, technology, philosophy, and Islamic studies. Prof. Dr. Fasli Jalal, Sp.GK, Ph.D., the former Deputy Minister of National Education and currently a member of YARSI University, was directly named to this advisory team. As one of Indonesia’s leading Islamic universities active in developing higher education and research based on Islamic values, YARSI also plays a strategic role in supporting the Ministry of Religious Affairs’ vision through academic contributions, research, and community service aligned with national religious programs.
The formation of this expert advisory team directly supports several SDG goals, particularly SDG 4 (Quality Education), through the involvement of education figures such as Prof. Mohammad Nuh, Prof. Fasli Jalal, and Najelaa Shihab, who have contributed to the development of a quality and inclusive education system. The team also supports SDG 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions) by establishing an inclusive and participatory leadership structure, involving diverse perspectives from religious and cultural leaders to strengthen tolerance and social harmony. The diverse backgrounds of team members, ranging from academics to social activists, reflect the approach of SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) in building strategic partnerships to achieve sustainable development, particularly in the fields of religion and education, which are the foundation for building national character.
