In January 2026, Prof. Dr. dr. Tjandra Yoga Aditama, Sp.P(K), DTM&H., MARS., DTCE., FISR, Head of the Postgraduate Program at Universitas YARSI, was invited as an expert speaker on SINDONews television to discuss the topic “Beware of Nipah Virus! Epidemiology Expert Reveals Dangers of Nipah Virus Transmission Through Pigs”. During this opportunity, Prof. Tjandra Yoga Aditama, who is an epidemiology expert, provided in-depth explanations about the Nipah virus, its characteristics, and the dangers of its transmission through intermediate animal hosts such as pigs. He explained that the Nipah virus is an extremely dangerous virus with very limited available data and currently no specific treatment or vaccine to combat it. Through his explanation, Prof. Tjandra educated the wider public about the importance of vigilance against zoonotic diseases that can transmit from animals to humans, as well as preventive measures needed to avoid Nipah virus transmission. Prof. Tjandra’s presence as a speaker on national mass media demonstrates the active role of Universitas YARSI academicians in contributing scientific knowledge and public health education, particularly in facing threats from emerging infectious diseases with pandemic potential.
The television media speaker activity conducted by the Head of the Postgraduate Program of Universitas YARSI aligns with the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) across several key points: Goal 3: Good Health and Well-being by providing accurate health education and information to the wider public about the Nipah virus and its transmission dangers, increasing public awareness about zoonotic diseases that can threaten human health, and promoting prevention efforts and preparedness in facing potential emerging infectious disease outbreaks; Goal 4: Quality Education through dissemination of scientific knowledge from academicians to the wider public through accessible mass media, providing evidence-based understanding of epidemiology and communicable disease control; Goal 17: Partnerships for the Goals through collaboration between higher education institutions (Universitas YARSI) and mass media (SINDONews TV) in spreading credible, science-based health information to society, and supporting government efforts in surveillance and preparedness for public health threats. Prof. Tjandra Yoga Aditama’s contribution also aligns with Goal 15: Life on Land by increasing awareness about the importance of maintaining ecosystem balance and safe interactions between humans and wildlife to prevent the spread of zoonotic diseases that can threaten human health and environmental sustainability.
