Taking Care of Ourselves, Taking Care of Nature: The Role of SDGs Center in Realizing Sustainable Life

To commemorate World Earth Day 2025, the SDGs Center and Population Studies of YARSI University held a series of inspiring and educational activities from April 22 to May 3, 2025. This year’s theme, “Save the Earth, Save Ourselves,” emphasized the deep connection between environmental sustainability and human well-being.

The celebration began on April 22 with a variety of interactive campaigns:

  • Green Action: a campus-wide visual campaign featuring a large Earth Day banner and a photo challenge on Instagram to spread awareness and engagement.
  • EcoFrame: a social media initiative where participants used a themed twibbon and shared eco-friendly actions such as reducing plastic use, planting trees, or sorting waste.
  • EarthStory: creative competitions in digital content and poster design, encouraging participants to voice environmental concerns through short videos and visual design.

The highlight of the series was the EcoBalance Webinar, held on Saturday, May 3, 2025, via Zoom. With the theme “Taking Care of Yourself, Taking Care of the Earth,” this webinar featured Dr. Muhammad Faisal, S.E., M.S.Ak, who delivered an insightful talk on how self-care aligns with environmental responsibility. He emphasized that sustainable living begins with daily actions that benefit both individual health and the planet—such as responsible consumption, managing waste, and maintaining physical and mental well-being.

This entire series of activities directly supported several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including:

  1. SDG 3 – G
ood Health and Well-being: Promoting self-care and mental health awareness as part of sustainable living practices.
  2. SDG 12 – Responsible Consumption and Production: Encouraging participants to adopt eco-conscious habits like reducing waste and consuming mindfully.
  3. SDG 13 – Climate Action: Inspiring behavior changes that support environmental protection and climate change mitigation.
  4. SDG 17 – Partnerships for the Goals: Showcasing collaboration between the SDGs Center, Peer SDGs, and the university community to spread sustainability education.

Participants gained practical knowledge, e-certificates, and the chance to win door prizes. Their enthusiasm was reflected through active involvement in discussions, creative submissions, and social media participation.

Through this initiative, the SDGs Center aims to cultivate a generation of changemakers who care for themselves and the Earth, working together to create a healthier and more sustainable future.
