SENTUH PRIMA Program as Educational Foundation for Breast Cancer Awareness

On July 3, 2025, the SENTUH PRIMA Program (Self-Screening and Holistic Education for Early Detection of Breast Cancer with Informative, Independent, and Active Response) was successfully implemented in the Beji region, Depok. This initiative serves as a response to the high incidence of breast cancer, which reaches 42.1 per 100,000 women, with 70% of cases diagnosed at advanced stages. The program integrates three principal components: community-based education, community empowerment, and strengthening of referral systems through partnership with the Integrated Cancer Disease Control Program (PKTP) Beji Depok.

Community-based educational activities were conducted utilizing a peer-to-peer education approach to eliminate stigma and myths surrounding breast cancer, provide practical breast self-examination (BSE) training, and enhance awareness regarding risk factors and early symptoms. The community empowerment component was realized through training of community health cadres, establishment of support groups for survivors and families, development of community-based reminder and follow-up systems, and integration with existing health programs. Meanwhile, the strengthening of referral systems was accomplished through standardization of early detection procedures, training of healthcare personnel on referral protocols, development of integrated tracking and monitoring systems, and coordination with referral hospitals.

This activity was attended by cadres from 10 Posyandu (Integrated Health Service Posts). The success of this initiative represents the outcome of strategic collaboration between PKTP Beji Depok, educational institutions, and active community participation. The SENTUH PRIMA Program aligns with SDG 3 on Good Health and Well-being, particularly targetting premature mortality from non-communicable diseases, and supports national health development priority agenda and University Key Performance Indicators in community service based on research and multi-stakeholder collaboration.
