On Monday, May 11, 2026, the Ministry of National Development Planning/National Development Planning Agency (PPN/Bappenas) through the National SDGs Secretariat organized Focus Group Discussion (FGD) I with the theme “Indonesia’s Positioning on Beyond 2030 Agenda Discourse Towards SDG Summit 2027”. The activity, attended by the Minister of Environment and the Minister of Bappenas, aimed to gather initial multi-stakeholder perspectives on strategic issues and Indonesia’s positioning in post-2030 development discourse towards SDG Summit 2027. This FGD discussed several important discussion objectives: (1) identifying developments in the global Beyond 2030 discourse and its relevance to Indonesia, (2) gathering stakeholder perspectives based on the 5P SDGs perspective (People, Planet, Prosperity, Peace, Partnership), (3) capturing current foreign policy dynamics and global developments, (4) affirming that SDGs have been integrated into RPJMN 2025-2029 and RPJPN 2025-2045, and (5) identifying strategic issues as initial material for positioning towards SDG Summit 2027. The discussion also presented that FGD serves as the initial step in formulating Indonesia’s positioning using Horizon Scanning approaches to read global and national dynamics broadly, Multi-Stakeholder Input that gathers various national perspectives (Environment, Economy, Social, Governance) in inclusive discussion spaces, and Positioning Indonesia that formulates Indonesia’s strategic position and basic objectives towards SDG 2027. This discussion involved various ecosystem pillars consisting of government as regulator and coordinator, private sector as innovation and investment, civil society as advocacy and assistance, and academics who play roles in data and scientific studies.
The FGD on Indonesia’s Positioning in Beyond 2030 Agenda Discourse organized by the Ministry of PPN/Bappenas aligns with the achievement of all Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly in the context of Indonesia’s strategic planning for the acceleration phase and positioning towards post-2030 global development agenda. This activity comprehensively supports all 17 SDG points with a focus on the transition phase from Agenda 2030 (Acceleration & Delivery) which closes gaps in lagging indicator achievements with sharp focus on operational implementation and the “Leave No One Behind” principle (reducing inequalities), towards the Beyond 2030 phase (Future Anticipation) which drives major change, prepares capacity and resources, and responds to policies. Indonesia is in the Acceleration and Positioning phase (2026+) which determines how Indonesia accelerates the achievement of Agenda 2030 while beginning to anticipate the direction of post-2030 global development. This strategic positioning is important because Indonesia has evolved from global commitment to becoming part of the national development system, with Indonesia’s SDGs developing from global commitment to becoming an integral part of the national development system, and this positioning will become an important foundation for accelerating development transformation towards actual SDGs. This FGD activity also demonstrates Indonesia’s commitment to Goal 17: Partnerships for the Goals through multi-stakeholder involvement from government, private sector, civil society, and academics in formulating Indonesia’s positioning strategy in global forums, and strengthening Indonesia’s role as an active middle-income country in promoting the global sustainable development agenda towards SDG Summit 2027 which will determine the direction of world development for the next decade.
