In November 2025, Universitas YARSI has received appreciation and recognition as a companion university (PT Pendamping) in the establishment of Task Forces for Prevention and Handling of Sexual Violence (Satuan Tugas Pencegahan dan Penanganan Kekerasan Seksual/Satgas PPKPT) at numerous universities within the LLDIKTI Region 3 jurisdiction. This recognition acknowledges Universitas YARSI’s commitment and expertise in supporting other higher education institutions to develop effective mechanisms for preventing and responding to sexual violence on campus. As a companion university, YARSI plays a crucial mentoring role by sharing best practices, providing technical guidance, facilitating capacity building for task force members, and supporting the implementation of comprehensive policies and procedures aligned with the Ministry of Education’s regulations on sexual violence prevention. This achievement reflects YARSI’s leadership in promoting safe, inclusive campus environments and demonstrates the university’s dedication to protecting student welfare beyond its own institutional boundaries. The companion role involves assisting partner universities in establishing protocols for reporting mechanisms, survivor support systems, perpetrator accountability processes, awareness campaigns, and creating campus cultures that respect dignity and prevent all forms of gender-based violence.
This recognition and YARSI’s role as a companion university directly support Sustainable Development Goal 5 on Gender Equality, which aims to eliminate all forms of violence against women and girls in public and private spheres, including sexual exploitation and harassment. By helping establish functional PPKPT task forces across multiple universities, YARSI contributes to creating safer educational environments where students especially women and vulnerable groups can pursue their studies free from fear of sexual violence. This initiative also supports SDG 4 on Quality Education by ensuring that educational institutions provide not only academic excellence but also safe, inclusive learning environments essential for student success and well-being. The establishment of robust prevention and response mechanisms addresses systemic barriers that often force survivors to discontinue their education, thereby promoting equal access to education regardless of gender. Furthermore, this work aligns with SDG 16 on Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions by strengthening institutional accountability, promoting rule of law, and building effective mechanisms for justice and protection. Through its companion role, Universitas YARSI amplifies its impact far beyond its own campus, contributing to transforming higher education culture across the region and advancing Indonesia’s commitment to eliminating gender-based violence and ensuring safe, equitable educational opportunities for all students.
